Contactless Payments Increase in Turkey

Following the introduction of quarantine, contactless payments have grown in popularity in Turkey. Many shops and pharmacies stopped accepting cash when it comes to payments.

According to the surveys, now, about 60% of Turkish residents use credit cards that have the contactless payment feature. This has led to an increase in the number of terminals. Back in the day, contactless payment was possible only in large cities, and now all residents from different provinces can benefit from this technology.

Experts believe that the habit of using cards will remain after the quarantine restrictions have lifted. By the end of the year, the terminal plans to install in many places, including:

  • Grocery stores
  • Souvenir shops
  • Clothe and other product shops
  • Pharmacies
  • Cafes and other catering establishments
  • Public transportation

Contactless payment is considered faster, more convenient and more hygienic. Such innovation will also make life easier for foreign tourists since there will be no need to look for currency exchange points.
